My Pa Was a Cowboy (with a Degree) ** Note: this is a song -- see the YouTube video below! ** Bucking bales in the heat of the noonday sun Catching muskrats and shooting his gun My pa grew up into a man And met my ma and hatched his plan Hey good lookin’ whatcha got cookin’ How’s about cooking something up with me? Well he rambled & roamed & listened to Hank Went to college, put money in the bank And one day he took her across the state line For a wedding and a valentine Hey good lookin’ whatcha got cookin’ How’s about cooking something up with me? My pa was a cowboy with a degree And he suffered fools charitably And he loved my ma emphatically And before too long they had my sister & me Say hey good lookin’ whatcha got cookin’ How’s about cooking some babies up with me? Well we all settled down in a dusty old town With not enough water for anyone to drown But plenty of whiskey and drinks all around & wheat sproutin’ up from the dusty old ground My pa was a teacher and he toiled and spent His efforts on people that wouldn’t repent But he raised me up good & I followed his lead And rambled and roamed and planted my seed Hey good lookin’ what’s that you got cookin’ How’s about cooking something up with me? This a great song. It is amazing how you took two lines from an old Hank song and fleshed it out to create a whole new story/song.
What a wonderful tribute to your dad. I noticed you had musical talent at a very young age banging in those keys. Delightful.
