Near where the Snake crawls over dams Into the Columbia before the great Sweeping turn towards the log jams Of the West as the Columbia slams Its way through beauty under skies of slate Carrying cargo ships and telegrams And cohos, sockeyes, pinks, and chums Along with sturgeons, hard to plate, And steelhead, trout, all good with yams, To follow up with a few wee drams Of rye in my coffee, I sit and wait For the clouds that cover the sky like shams To clear a moment, with my dreams Of summers past and winters late, Near where the Snake crawls over dams, For the sunrise with its feeble beams.
You make East Pasco seem much more scenic then I remember! I do love the confluence of the Snake and Columbia Rivers. Beautiful poem, and another great start to my day.
Read. Listened and just re-read. Travelling on the rivers with the ships paced by living vessels. Powerful even frightening imagery (I’ve taken a small boat around the cape of an island a few times) and small sailing boats) . Just so vivid. You can feel the rocking motion of this boats and envy the fish their smoother ride through.
