There was a time I thought the sun a dreary Thing baring its teeth at my broken heart Day after day to make me pay for the history Of crimes I knew nothing of and thought my part Inconsequential. I thought I needed saving And that I must apologize every moment For my existence and the inward raving I offered to myself as a running comment On absenteeism's unavoidable shame, The insecurity of the crumbling ground Beneath my feet. But then I knew the game Was also something strange that could abound In something like the sunrise in its beauty That had no part of sorrow, shame, or duty.
