The Well
repairing the damage
When I awoke this morning I emerged as if from a well Where the darkness had enveloped The cares of the previous Day and cradled my dreams In momentous calmness and peace. It’s difficult to explain What I saw in my reflection Where the pebbles and coins had sunk, Where I could only grow gills To breathe the final truth Of my mysterious existence. But in that moment I began To drink the music of my life, The soundtrack that accompanied Me from the amniotic Sea to the dark canal That led to a symphony of light. Then it was that the sun rose To the breathing of my mother On the very first opening Of my newborn eyes that day When I was born to see This everlasting undulation.

I love the idea that we are a continuation of an ancient love, established in the womb and serving as the background melody of our journey through space and time.
Beautiful poem, Jonathan, capturing that first moment and the "everlasting undulation" and shimmer of life until, once again, we return to the well.
