Too many may. But not the sane ones…(and who can blame the world thinking we’re this shallow - but I’d say most of us are moral being - and a generous bunch)

(Do I sound defensive? Yes)

I’d like to think we are a moral and generous bunch and I don’t think we’re all that shallow as people, but I think American culture is, but it’s also very wide so, perhaps, that makes up for its lack of depth.

I think that you’re right. Paul, more so as the culture becomes more homogeneous, at least of what I know of it - (outside of the rich hyphenated life I lived - and lived among - as a child in New York).. The commercialization of distinct traditions has removed the religious overtones of their genesis.. (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter).. not a bad thing I think - but less rich absolutely.

Yet we have baseball - the nearest thing to a distinct American cultural feature there is. The world doesn’t see it, but it’s a good start at tradition..

Interesting comment thread here— thank you. I was trying to preserve something mysterious at work in these phenomena and not but level an indictment … although I wanted to do that, too.

A poem that shows us, in a raw and cruel way, how little humanity has evolved since the Middle Ages

Kings who insist that their wills should be followed and never take counsel with their people, are as little to be heard as children who babble of what they cannot know.

Lol yes Jonathan. This is partly why I don't watch sporting events, or celebrities.

I certainly don't recognise this three, but the gorgeous woman seems to have 5 long fingers on her left hand instead of 4 fingers and a thumb.

So definitely an American dream, as you say. Aussie celebrities are less exotic.

Cheers

Dave :)

Thank you, Keith. I was feeling that and at the same time feeling myself inadequate for the job.
