The poem tries to strike an optimistic note but it reflects the difficulties by pointing out bridge is out. The picture is almost black and white with a little color in places, enough color to give a little aspirational effect. It’s dreary enough to acknowledge the hard journey ahead. Just my two cents.

When I read a Potter poem, I am continually reminded of what William Carlos Williams meant when he wrote The Red Wheelbarrow." The simple act of seeing and writing about what is actually there is at the heart of Jonathan's poetry.
