Thanks Stan. I started to push back in my mind against the assertion that I have a "normal" style, but now that I've written over five hundred unpunctuated and stripped-down "hexagrams" I guess I don't mind accepting that.
Every line longing for the road, taking what comes with a drive through a lifetime. Discovering that treasure is beneath your feet - the journey, not hidden gold somewhere far away.
Thanks Jason. Idea for a movie we might pitch to Hollywood someday: two aging white guy poets go on a wacky roadtrip in search of a hidden highway. They experience lots of weird David Lynch / Coen Bros. / Tarantino style misadventures and write many haiku along the way.
A trip to the far reaches to recharge and reflect, cruising past bluffs that can become distractions, and the return home that seats and seals the revelations.
This form provides a welcome break from your normal style. Think of it like taking deep breaths and controlling your exhales.

Wow! " In the seasonal poker game go down the highway
With all your cash pocketed in the goose down."
What an awesome line. Love it!
Thanks Karen! I felt pretty happy about that line, too.

Thanks, Patris. I love your soulful intelligent comments and I'm grateful to be read by you.
I too am looking for a hidden highway, and when in the thrall of one of Jonathan's poems, I'm sure I will find it.

Yes! Haiku Highway practically writes itself.
Omg, you closed the circuit with that title!
I am a highway, not particularly a river man.

Thanks, Malcolm. Interesting -- river vs highway. Much to ponder there!
