I’m a few days behind, alphabetically speaking, but I’m still having fun with Writer Pilgrim by So Elite’s song-title poetry challenge. I’ve been making them into pseudo-sonnets consisting strictly of song titles (allowing for some extra punctuation), and here’s what I came up with for the letter P. I like the post-apocalyptic sci-fi feel of it. Be sure to follow the above link to check other great P-poems.
The Police So lonely next to you, Roxanne. Don’t stand so close to me walking on the moon, demolition man. Every little thing she does is magic on any other day walking in your footsteps. Every breath you take, it’s alright for you — de do do do, de da da da. When the world is running down, you make the best of what’s still around.
This is so great it works backwards too reading line by line in reverse order or reading the stanzas in reverse. Brilliant Jonathan, you picked the best titles.
I hadn’t listened to Poliice in a long time, and then this morning they came up in my feed. We listened to them for awhile before lunch. I came back to Substack, and I found this first in my feed. Serendipity! Love the poem! Thank you for sharing!
